30 Jul The Guild Partners with Trupo in Providing Benefits Packages to Freelancers
The Graphic Artists Guild has partnered with Trupo, a company whose mission is to provide benefits packages to freelancers similar to those extended to full-timers working in corporate America. Trupo offers dental, accident, and specified disease insurance for individuals earning over 50% of their income as freelancers.
Individuals can visit the Graphic Artist Guild’s webpage on the Trupo website to request enter in their information and view recommended insurance packages. Currently, Trupo is offered only in New York state, but expects to roll out benefits packages in additional states shortly. However, people in other states can register with Trupo to get updates when the program comes to their state.
Trupo is also sponsoring our Summer Celebration get-together for creative professionals August 6th at WeWork’s Fulton Center location, at which we’ll be celebrating progress on our artist advocacy initiatives. Sara Horowitz, Trupo founder, will be present to make a short presentation and answer questions about Trupo’s offerings.
Prior starting to Trupo, Sara Horowitz founded the Freelancers Union in New York City, the advocacy group which (pre-ACA) provided metro-New York freelancers affordable health insurance. The Guild has supported advocacy initiatives benefiting freelancers promoted by the Freelancers Union, such as the implementation of the Freelance Isn’t Free act in New York City. Horowitz is a nationally recognized expert on the freelance economy, and was named one of the Top 30 Social Entrepreneuers by Forbes.
