Icograda, the International Council of Communication Design, announced December 15 that the organization changed its name to ico-D, the International Council of Design. The change was the result of extensive discussion and debate between Icograda members and board, and was overwhelmingly approved at the 2014 General Assembly. The change was precipitated by concern that the previous name did not reflect the diversity of disciplines represented by the organization’s members. The organization timed the announcement to coincide with the publication of their new website, a well-organized and responsive retooling, and edited their Twitter handle to @theicod.

ico-D’s mission remains unchanged. The organization continues to represent the interests of professional designers and promote agreater understanding and appreciation of design: “ico-D promotes design excellence, and upholds the importance of design as a key medium for progressive social change.”
