Joan Savitt,

I am an illustrator who uses humor and an interest in current events to create illustrations in a loose, realistic style. I am inspired by the everyday, and find that some of my most insightful and successful illustrations come from giving un-remarkable objects an editorial twist. I sketch every day, and often say to myself “this thing I am drawing is going to be useful one day.” I have many sketchbooks from years of drawing that I use for inspiration. Consulting these, after researching a topic, helps me create clever, informative, and eye-catching work. I work in pen and ink, watercolor, gouache, cut paper, acrylics, Photoshop and Illustrator. Most of my work is from drawings from life.
