Friday, March 10

A group of artist advocacy organizations came together with a common goal: to help protect artist rights in the fast-growing AI and technology space. Our main focus is to educate our community as well as the public regarding the use of AI/ML media generators.

This free-to-attend, one-day event will bring together speakers, experts, and creatives to help form the beginnings of a code of ethics for these technologies. We will be looking at the current state of the technologies from region-specific initiatives, learning about the issues, laws, and actions being taken around the world as well as focusing on the different areas of the creative industries such as visual arts, writing, production, performance, music, and photography.

By having these public discussions within and for our community we hope to move towards solutions that work not just for creators, but to not be a barrier to innovation. Attendees will have the option to watch discussions in real-time or on-demand after they have happened.

Our own Rebecca Blake will be speaking on the US Panel along with (moderator) Rachel Meinerding from the Bric Foundation and Neil Turkewitz Independent Arts Advocate/Lawyer. The region specific panel will be looking at the initiatives, actions and current concerns with AI media generators from around the world.

About the Hosts:
Terrence Moline lives by design. He resides at the corner of marketing and art by utilizing his skills to create identities, communities, and communication. With 25+ years of industry dedication, his illustration, strategy, and design have helped raise the profile of community causes and educational organizations. Terrence is also the Founder and Head Listener at African American Graphic Designers (AAGD.co), the largest collective of AA/Blk designers who collaborate while growing as a family.

Ed Shems has been freelance illustrating and designing for more than 25 years, working primarily in the early reader, middle grade, comic, graphic novel, and education markets. Ed is a member of the Illustration Advisory Council for the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and the Special Guest Coordinator for the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICE).Ed has been a member of the Graphic Artists Guild for more than 20 years, and a volunteer for a good portion of that time.

Join the New England Region’s Creative Team for Show Off & Tell! An informal gathering to show off some recent work, get feedback on works in progress, or do some fun drawing exercises to keep your skills sharp.

All creatives welcome! Whether you want to show off your work (and enjoy some oohs and ahhs), or just participate in the telling part, come and schmooze with the New England Region.
