Presenter: Katia Wish

January 19, 2022

What does a journey from inspiration to the publication of a children’s book look like?

How do you start your process?
• From a character?
• From an idea?
• From a childhood memory?

All of the above!

Join author-illustrator, Katia Wish to see how she developed her latest book, RACCOON’S PERFECT SNOWMAN. From childhood memories to initial character studies to doodles/notes to figuring out the heart of the story to storyboards to character consistency to many versions of a dummy book to submission. And as you think that the book is almost there, there are many more revisions with an editor and an art director. They help you make the book the best it can be!

Attendees will learn about these topics:

● inspiration
● idea generation
● character
● initial sketches/ doodles
● manuscript
● many drafts of manuscripts /dummy books
● research
● storyboard
● sharing your drafts with critique partners/an agent/an editor
● character consistency
● final sketches for the book
● submitting your dummy book to an agent or an editor
● working with an editor/art director to make the story better
● revising the text/art based on an editor/art director suggestions
● working on final images for the book
