About the Presenters

Justin Perricone
Justin Perricone spent years as a freelance graphic designer, but now works as the UX Strategist at Image Conscious Studios in Boston. 

He was an Adjunct Professor of Typography at The New England School of Art and Design at Suffolk University and has served as Vice-President of the Boston Chapter of the Graphic Artists Guild. He is co-founder of Creative Relay, an organization dedicated to providing professional development opportunities to the local and national creative community.


Ed Shems
Ed is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and a seasoned illustrator and graphic designer, with more than twenty years as a freelancer. Ed has illustrated books for Scholastic, Sterling, Capstone and Wiley and has created work for education markets for Highlights for Kids, Scholastic, CarrotNewYork, Hasbro, MIT, Cricket and Harcourt.

Ed is the special guests coordinator for the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (MICE) and he is on the design advisory committee for DIGMA: The Design Industry Group of Massachusetts. He has served as President of the Boston Chapter of the Graphic Artists Guild. He is co-founder of Creative Relay, an organization dedicated to providing professional development opportunities to the local and national creative community.

In 2014, Ed testified before members of the Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives in a hearing alongside the publishing industry on behalf of the Graphic Artists Guild, The Copyright Alliance and all visual artists concerning changes to the First Sale Doctrine.
