Ask An Illustrator: An Artist Navigates the Publishing Business
Presented by Pam Levy
About the webinar:
Now that you’'re on your way to making a great portfolio, find out the next steps to your illustration career. Children’s book and magazine illustrator Pam Levy takes us on a tour of finding work as an illustrator. She will outline how to choose and approach publishers in the trade book, educational, and magazine markets, talk about what to do business-wise once you have a contract in hand, and discuss agents and lawyers. She will also help us understand the traditional ways jobs come from art directors, publishers and packagers, and how to make a submission package for a self-generated book project.
About our Presenter: Pamela Levy illustrated “Otto’s Rainy Day*”, which was chosen as a ‘Kids’ Pick of the Lists’; “The Easter Egg Escapade”, which has been adapted into a feature length animation; and has received two Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) Magazine Merit Awards. Some of her published credits include "Here Comes Peter Cottontail", The four-book series "the Adventures of Hector Fuller, and "Casebook of a Private Cat's Eye". She is graduate of Vanderbilt University (Mathematics and Art History) and the Rhode Island School of Design.
Pam comes to us courtesy of the Graphic Artists Guild, a national organization promoting the rights of art professionals and providing business support and advice.
