Miss the Creative Freelancers Conference in San Francisco this summer? There are a number of wonderful blogs posting links to recaps and resources. Guild member Cedric Hohnstadt posted on his blog a brief summary of the conference, as well as a list of articles written by conference presenters, and recaps from other attendees. The New York Chapter Summer of Fonts is a three-month series of presentations by leading typographers and designers. The 2013 series kicks off on Thursday, July 25 with designer Karl Heine speaking on Putting your Best Face Forward – Why type matters: the inside protocol for self-promotion and marketing. Non-members who join the Guild are invited to attend all three Summer of Fonts events for free. On June 28th, the Copyright Office amended its regulations to offer a new electronic registration option called the “single application.” The intention is to provide a simplified application process for individual author claimants to register a single work (not made for hire) for the same price as the standard application, $35. The option is offered on an interim basis, and the Office in inviting public comment, due August 28th.

The History of Typography is a charming stop-motion animation created by designer Ben Barrett-Forrest. The animation is a labor of love, requiring 140 hours of work incorporating 291 cut-paper letters and 2,454 photographs.
